What Counts as a Home Emergency?

Not sure if you should call? Here are the situations that need immediate attention.

Burst or Leaking Pipe

Water damage escalates fast โ€” minutes matter. Don't wait until morning.

No Heat in Winter

Health risk โ€” especially for elderly residents. Temperature drops are dangerous.

AC Failure in Extreme Heat

A health emergency during 100ยฐF+ days in the 707 โ€” don't suffer through it.

Power Outage / Sparking Outlet

Electrical sparks are a fire risk. Turn off the breaker and call immediately.

Sewage Backup

A health hazard that worsens rapidly. Act immediately โ€” don't use water or drains.

Flooding From Any Source

Every minute of flooding increases damage. Call 911 if rising water is dangerous.

Gas Smell

LEAVE THE HOUSE FIRST. Don't use any switches. Call 911, then us from outside.

When Waiting Feels Risky

If your gut says don't wait, listen to it. We'd rather come out and say "you're fine" than have you wait too long.

What to Do While We're On Our Way

Step-by-step guides to minimize damage before our tech arrives.

1. Turn off the water at the main shutoff valve (usually near the water meter or under the kitchen sink). Turn it clockwise until fully closed.

2. Turn on faucets to relieve remaining pressure in the pipes.

3. Move electronics and valuables away from water.

4. Take photos for your insurance claim.

5. Our tech will arrive with the right equipment โ€” don't try to repair it yourself.

1. Layer up with blankets and warm clothing โ€” wool is best for retaining body heat.

2. Close off unused rooms to concentrate warmth.

3. A safe space heater in the main room (keep it away from curtains and furniture).

4. DO NOT use an oven, BBQ, or gas range to heat your home โ€” carbon monoxide risk.

5. If you have elderly family members or infants, consider moving to a neighbor's or hotel.

1. Close blinds and curtains on sun-facing windows to block radiant heat.

2. Move to the lowest floor of your home โ€” heat rises.

3. Run a portable fan across a bowl of ice to create an improvised cool-air stream.

4. Stay hydrated โ€” drink water even if you don't feel thirsty.

5. Know the signs of heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, cold/pale skin, weak pulse. This is a medical emergency โ€” call 911.

1. Locate your electrical panel (usually in the garage, basement, or utility room).

2. If you can safely get to it, flip the affected circuit breaker to the OFF position.

3. For a full outage or if you see sparking, flip the main breaker (the large one at the top) to OFF.

4. DO NOT use extension cords across wet floors.

5. If there is an active fire, exit immediately and call 911 before calling us.

LEAVE IMMEDIATELY.

1. Don't turn any light switches on or off โ€” a spark could ignite gas.

2. Don't use your phone inside the house.

3. Leave the door open as you exit โ€” don't close it tightly.

4. Call 911 from outside or a neighbor's home.

5. Then call us. Don't re-enter until emergency services have cleared the building.
